We conducted a blind taste test of five different waters. Each student ranked the five waters from Best Taste to Worst Taste. Most of the class predicted they would prefer Distilled water; no one thought they would like Room 17 water. Here is a summary of the results of our blind taste test.
Rating | Water | From Where | Hard or Soft |
---|---|---|---|
Best | Palo Alto Tap Water | Hetch Hetchy, Yosemite, California | Soft |
2nd | Crystal Geyser | Sierra Nevada Mountains, California | Soft |
3rd | Refreshe | Sugarpine, California | Soft |
5th | Evian | Cachat Springs, Evian, France | Hard |
4th | Black Mountain Distilled | Brea, California | Soft |
Palo Alto water from the fountain in our classroom as the clear favorite, followed by Crystal Geyser and Refreshe. Only a few people liked Evian water best; even fewer liked Distilled water best.

We were surprised how strongly people felt about Evian and Distilled—most of us didn’t like either waters! Few people had Evian or Distilled Water in the middle of their lists. Most of us had Palo Alto water in the top two rankings; very few liked it least.
